How to write the perfect professional summary?
3 lines maximum
Your summary must fit in 2–3 sentences. It is a pitch, not a novel. Every word must count.
Who, what, where
Present your profile (who), your main expertise (what) and your professional objective (where you want to go).
Personalise for each application
Adapt the keywords in your summary to the job ad to pass ATS filters and capture the recruiter's attention.
Frequently asked questions
Is a CV summary mandatory?
No, but it is strongly recommended. A good summary allows the recruiter to understand in 5 seconds whether your profile matches what they are looking for.
What is the difference between a summary and a career objective?
The summary presents your current profile (who you are and what you have done). The career objective states what you are looking for. For experienced profiles, the summary is preferable.
Should the summary be written in the first or third person?
In France, the summary is generally written without a pronoun (neither "I" nor "he/she"). Start directly with an adjective or noun: "Full Stack Developer with 5 years…"
How do I include ATS keywords in my summary?
Identify the 3–5 main keywords from the job ad and integrate them naturally into your summary. Avoid "keyword stuffing" which hurts readability.
